About the Academy

Who Can Attend

Business, civic, and religious leaders, each nominated by a Bureau employee or a previous Academy graduate. You must be at least 21 years old (with no prior felony convictions) and must live and work in the area covered by the Kentucky field office sponsoring the academy. Please note: Because classified techniques used in criminal and national security cases are discussed, nominees must undergo a background check and get an interim security clearance. Each session has around 20-30 students.

Special Agents in Charge of that Kentucky field office, their senior managers and senior agent experts.

For How Long

Classes generally are made up of seven weekly sessions of 3 hours each at the Kentucky FBI Office, plus one Saturday session at the FBI Firearms Training Facility in Lexington, KY.

  • Firearms Training System, Deadly Force Policy, Recruiting/Applicants, National Academy, Cooperation & Assistance between FBI and State, Local or other Federal law enforcement agencies
  • Economic Crimes, Health Care Fraud, Financial Institutions Fraud, Civil Rights and Hate Crimes
  • Computer Intrusion Investigations, Computer Evidence (CART), Economic Espionage, Evidence Response Team, National Foreign Intelligence
  • Violent Crimes, Bank Robbery, Fugitives, Evidence Recovery, Negotiation Teams
  • Organized Crime, Money Laundering and Drug Investigations
  • Domestic and International Terrorism; Firearms Safety, SWAT, Firearms participation
  • Evidence Response Team and HazMat Response Team demonstrations
